Klein ISD Academic Decathlon Teams Sweep Regional Tournament, Compete at State!

Klein ISD Academic Decathlon Teams Sweep Regional Tournament, Compete at State!

In a first for our district, three Klein ISD high schools qualified for and competed in the Texas Academic Decathlon competition!

These Klein ISD's Academic Decathlon teams demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication at the recent Regional Tournament, achieving a remarkable sweep. Klein High secured first place, followed by Klein Forest in second and Klein Collins in third. All three teams advanced to the State competition. Klein Cain and Klein Oak also earned individual medals.

Further demonstrating their outstanding performance, Klein High and Klein Forest earned entries to the state-wide tournament in San Antonio, while Klein Collins qualified for the Frisco tournament, based on their high point rankings compared to all other regions.

“What an extraordinary effort for the record-breaking performance of Klein High, Klein Forest, and Klein Collins students, as well as the expert guidance provided by their coaches- illustrating yet another example of ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE in Klein ISD,” Klein ISD Director of Advanced Academic Services/College & Career Pathways Kathleen Plott said.

The teams continued to excel at the State tournaments, showcasing their deep knowledge and skills. Notable individual medalists included:

  • Klein High: Ethan Nunez (Silver, Essay), Sasha Wammel (Bronze, Interview), Silviano Cano (Silver, Art)
  • Klein Collins: Anami Dalsaniya (Gold, Speech), Genny Woods (Bronze, Interview), Justin Rasmussen (Gold, Mathematics), Timothy Finnen (Gold, Science; Silver, Economics and Mathematics), Whitley Colby (Silver, Science), Brayden Garza (Silver, Science)

The Texas Academic Decathlon, a chapter of the prestigious United States Academic Decathlon, challenges high school students in ten rigorous events. Teams of Honors, Scholastic, and Varsity students dedicate significant time throughout the year to prepare for competitions. Events include speeches, essays, interviews, and challenging exams covering diverse subjects like Art, Economics, and Science, culminating in the exciting Super Quiz.

Congratulations to the dedicated students and coaches of Klein ISD's Academic Decathlon teams for their outstanding achievements. Your Klein Family is so proud of you!
