A New Guardian: Welcoming Our Newest KPD K-9 Unit
Klein, TX- Added as part of Klein ISD's continuous commitment to safety and security, K-9 Bax, an 18-month-old German Shepherd and Malinois mix from Poland comes to us certified in advanced scent detection. His remarkable abilities are already making a significant difference.
"The impact of adding K-9 Bax to our team cannot be overstated," Klein ISD Police Chief Marlon Runnels said. "His abilities complement our efforts to maintain a safe environment for our students and staff. His acute sense of smell and agility are invaluable in detecting harmful substances that are otherwise undetectable."
Training is a top priority for K-9 Bax, who undergoes weekly sessions with other local K-9 units and annual recertification to keep his skills sharp. His duties are varied and vital, including patrolling campuses, supporting officers, and responding to incidents where his specialized skills are required.
"Being a K-9 handler merges my love for dogs with the challenge of law enforcement, allowing me to protect our community in a unique way," Corporal Grimaldo said.
Their presence not only boosts security but also fosters positive community relations.
While Bax's primary role is as a working dog, he also participates in community events and educational programs, offering a friendly and approachable face to the important work of campus security.
For Klein ISD students and staff, K-9 Bax's presence is a comforting reminder of our commitment to their safety. He symbolizes the district's dedication to creating a secure and welcoming environment.
As Corporal Grimaldo aptly puts it, "K-9 Bax isn't just a dog; he's my partner and a crucial member of our security team. Together, we're here to make a difference."
The journey of this remarkable team is just beginning, and Klein ISD looks forward to keeping a safe and secure environment with our new K-9 guardian leading the way.
